Joe Warburton, who runs the Oldham RLFC Pathway programme on behalf of the club, is delighted to tell us that, despite school holidays and the odd absence, the under-15s scored eight tries against Doncaster at Bentley RLFC the other night to win 32-28 in a humdinger of a game.
The Oldham lads never trailed and actually led 32-16 at one stage in the second half, but the home side wouldn't go away and, in fact, scored three late tries to give Oldham a scare.
Kayden Murray’s tactical kicking was an early feature of the game in which Murray and Kendall Grayson each scored two tries for Oldham with the others scored by Rob Steel, Kael Lewis, Matthew Leach and Callum Timlin.
Steel’s try was a length-of-the field interception try which opened the score. Oldham never looked back after leading 8-0, but credit Doncaster with a determined effort in which which they refused to capitulate.
+ Youngsters from several community clubs, including out-of-town organisations such as Blackbrook (St Helens), Langworthy (Salford), and Mayfield (Rochdale) took part in a mini tournament as a curtain-raiser to the Oldham v Midlands Hurricanes game. Also involved were local clubs Limehurst Lions, Saddleworth Rangers, Oldham St Anne’s and Waterhead Warriors, whose senior team has won 14 of its 17 games in division one of the NCL to top the table in pursuit of promotion to the premier division.
