TWENTY players represented Oldham Lions RISE Pathway under-16s against Salford Reds Pathway at Cadishead Rhinos the other night where the Oldham lads led 16-6 before Salford snatched a 16-16 draw with a converted try in the last minute.
Thank-you to Tommy Leyland of Oldham St Anne’s, a former Oldham player and a very active member of the Oldham Players’ Assn, for stepping in to help out on the adult side and massive congratulations from everyone in Oldham’s Pathway programme to centre Eugene Tinubu of St Anne’s, who has been selected in the 32-strong under-16s squad to represent Ireland in the upcoming Home Nations campaign, writes ROGER HALSTEAD with information provided by Oldham boss JOE WARBURTON.
Said Joe:
“I couldn’t be prouder of how the boys represented Oldham. It was fabulous to see them pulling on that shirt (pictured) and wanting to get out there to represent Oldham. The highlight was our awesome defence. It speaks volumes for us that Salford’s equalising points came in the last minute. Up to then, we had held out with a great defensive display by all the team.”
