Oldham are delighted to announce fan favourite Owen Farnworth has penned a two-year contract extension to stay at the club until at least the end of the 2028 season.

Farnworth has been a standout performer for Roughyeds since joining ahead of the 2024 season. The 27-year-old finished as runner-up in last season’s Fans’ Player of the Year vote and was also shortlisted for both the Coaches’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards in 2024.

He has made 57 appearances for Oldham and is the first player to commit his future to the club beyond the end of the season, with more to follow.

Owen Farnworth said:

"I am really happy to be here. I have really enjoyed my time here. I really like the club and the fans.

I always try my hardest and give 100% all the time and do what the coach wants me to do to stay in the team.

I feel like we are moving in the right direction... we are not taking a backward step.

We have still got a really good team and we are still trying to win this league.

We need to keep cracking on, but I think we will be up there at the end of the season."

Alan Kilshaw said:

“We’re delighted to have extended Owen for the next two seasons. While our full focus is on the current campaign, the wheels never stop turning behind the scenes and it’s important we safeguard the future of the squad.

Owen is tough, durable, and coming into the prime years for a prop forward. We believe he’s one of the best middle forwards in the Championship, so we’re really pleased he’ll be a Roughyed for at least the next two seasons.”
