We are pleased to confirm that prop forward Owen Farnworth has signed a new one-year deal to stay with Oldham for the 2026 season.

One of the unsung heroes of the Roughyeds pack, Farnworth has been in outstanding form since a spell on loan at Rochdale earlier this season.

A runner-up in the Fans' Player of the Year vote this season, the 26-year-old was also shortlisted for both the Coaches' Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards in 2024.

He follows fellow front row Ted Chapelhow in committing his future to the Roughyeds for next year.

"I'm really happy and have enjoyed my two years here so far," Farnworth told Roughyeds TV.

I had a bit of a blip this year and a bit of time out of the squad, but it is what I needed and I came back better than ever.

Playing with Jack Ormondroyd and Gil Dudson has made me a better player this year in the step up from League 1. It is exciting for me the way I am playing at the minute and I feel there is more to get out of me so we will see where we go.

Even when we have not been playing our best we have still been getting wins this year, and I think when everything clicks we are going to be a really dangerous team going not the playoffs - I think it can be an exciting time for Oldham."

Head coach Sean Long added:

"Owen has been brilliant since winning his place back in the team. I felt his form had dropped off so he fell out of the side and went out on loan and has worked so hard on his game.

He is a tough, energetic forward and a great example of what hard work can achieve."
