Match Preview: Midlands vs Oldham

Oldham are back on the road this weekend in search for a victory over Midlands Hurricanes when the two face of at Avery Fields on March 1 (2pm kick-off).

The Hurricanes are currently fourth in the Betfred Championship and a win over Oldham would extend their winning run to four matches.

Team News

Riley Dean is in contention to return to the Roughyeds squad having recovered from the rib injury.

Also returning to the squad is Marcus Geener with Ryan Lannon, Brad Day and Jack Walker dropping out.

Day will spend some time on the sidelines after failing his HIA, and being cup-tied means he won’t return until after the Catalans Dragons clash.

Lannon is not quite ready while Jack Walker is unavailable due to a pre-arranged family holiday, agreed prior to his signing.

The Opposition

Having finished fifth in League One last year, the Midlands have strengthened bringing in experienced – and ex Roughyeds – playmaker Danny Craven.

Alongside Craven in the halves will be the two-time League One Player of the Year, Lewis Else. The former Rochdale scrum-half scored 43 tries in 64 appearances for the Hornets, has already grabbed four this year, and will pose a threat on Sunday.

Despite a loss to a resurgent Newcastle in round one, Midlands have secured wins over Doncaster, Batley and Goole Vikings.

Despite a rocky start, a win for Oldham would put Roughyeds firmly back on track.
