Match Preview: Oldham vs Widnes

Following a break in action, Oldham are back at Bower Fold to take on Widnes Vikings in round three of the Betfred Championship.

Widnes have won their last two league fixtures over Workington and North Wales and will arrive on Friday night in a bid to secure their first win over Roughyeds since 2021.

Team News

Alan Kilshaw has made two changes to last week's 21-man squad with new signing Brad Day and Ryan Lannon coming into contention for starts on Friday night.

Day, whose signing was announced this week, could be set to make his Roughyeds debut while Lannon, who suffered an injury in the London game, is back to full fitness and could return to face his former club.

The pair replace Marcus Geener and Riley Dean. Dean remains out with his rib injury but has progressed well with the setback not as bad as first feared.

Head coach Alan Kilshaw previewed Friday night's game and gave a comprehensive injury update on Roughyeds TV here.

Squad in full: 1. Jack Walker, 2. Kieran Dixon, 4. Ben Davies, 5. Jake Bibby, 6. Morgan Smith, 8. Jack Ormondroyd, 9. Matty Wildie, 10. Owen Farnworth, 11. Matty Ashurst, 12. Ryan Lannon, 13. Adam Milner, 14. Cole Geyer, 15. Ted Chapelhow, 16. Ewan Moore, 17. Emmanuel Waine, 18. Jaron Purcell, 19. Harvey Makin, 21. Tom Nisbet, 23. Josh Drinkwater, 25. Sam Littler, 26. Brad Day.

The Opposition

Jay Chapelhow, Adam Lawton and Jumah Sambou could feature against their former club on Friday night.

Oldham got the better of Widnes at home last year, winning 22-4 at Sedgley Park, and drew the away fixture 10-10 last April.

Winger Mike Butt could pose a threat to Roughyeds, having scored five tries already in just three appearances.

The Vikings just missed out on the play-offs last year but will be hoping to secure their place in the expanded 10-team play-off series at the end of the season.
