Oldham on their own now in Pathway Programme

OLDHAM are going it alone now in their Rise Lions Pathway programme for youngsters, having split amicably with Leeds Rhinos who have been heavily involved hitherto.

Said Joe Warburton, on his arrival back in Oldham from a Leeds Rhinos challenge weekend in Skegness with St Anne’s under-12s:

“It’s been great working alongside Joe Sanderson and Darren Higgins from Leeds Rhinos. They have laid a great foundation in Oldham for us to carry on our work with the Oldham Lions Pathway. I have a meeting with Mike Ford this week to put a full calendar in place for players and coaches.”

Added Ford:

“On a personal note, I was lucky in that the junior and senior schools I went to were real rugby schools back then and I would love nothing better than to see Oldham lads getting similar opportunities. To my way of thinking this is the most important and rewarding project of everything we are doing.”

Mike Turner, of the Oldham RL Heritage Trust, echoed those sentiments at a recent Partners’ Meeting, adding:

“There’s a bigger Oldham Rugby feel-good factor now than I’ve ever known,”

Like the parent body, which had a full table, Mike and his wife Mary were at the Players’ Assn social evening, as was Phil Bradbury of the Oldham Amateur League.

Oldham’s first stand-alone matches under the banner called Oldham RISE Lions Pathway are against Salford at Cadishead and are given here:
