Thank you Adam

The club can confirm it has granted the request of forward Adam Lawton to be released from the remainder of his contract to take up an offer with Widnes Vikings.

The 32-year-old was an integral part of Oldham's League 1 title win last season and a popular member of the Roughyeds squad. He leaves with the heartfelt thanks and best wishes of everyone at the club.

Managing director Mike Ford said:

"Adam approached us with the offer of an 18-month contract from another club. After looking at the strength of our squad in that position we decided to grant him his request. We wish Adam every success for the future."

Chairman Bill Quinn added:

"On behalf of the club I really want to thank Adam for everything he has done for us in that Oldham shirt. He is a fine player and more importantly a great guy and we wish him every success at Widnes - apart from when he comes up against us!"

Adam Lawton had the following message to fans after his departure:

"I would like to personally thank the fans for their tremendous support - Oldham fans are up there with the friendliest in the comp and I thank you for taking me as one of your own.
Rugby league is a short career and not a fairytale, but last season was one of the most memorable in my career and I could see what it meant to the fans and the town.

I will be a Yeds supporter for life and all I can see at the club is progression. I'd like to thank Bill Quinn and Mike Ford for the opportunity to wear the badge and create memories. And to the staff, to George, Guy, Sam - some of the nicest guys in rugby league. Good luck to the lads for the rest of the year, you have a squad to get to the top and I wish you all the best."
