Yeds vow to build on ‘incredible’ platform

Oldham have enjoyed two incredible seasons and must now kick on in the 2026 Betfred Championship, according to star winger Kieran Dixon.

The former Super League flyer believes Oldham's togetherness and work ethic in winning League 1 and then finishing fourth in the Championship underline the giants strides forward by the club in the past two seasons. And now the players want more.

"We as a group performed really well last year," Dixon told Roughyeds TV.

It wasn't a perfect season - there were a few patches. But the last two seasons have been incredible. The team and the work ethic that everyone had when I arrived here was massive and that carried over into the season just gone.

To finish fourth in our first attempt in the Championship was really, really good. We have to try and replicate that this year. We don't have the same squad but we understand the end goal and that is to win the league."

Dixon started the season with a bang in 2025 but a cruel broken arm ended up curtailing his playing time. Having fought back to fitness, and seen fellow wingers Mo Agoro and Mathieu Pons depart, the former Hull KR and London man is now desperate to reproduce his very best form in an Oldham shirt.

"I'm fighting fit. I'm starting pre-season well, feeling well within myself and kept myself busy in the gym and running to stay fit.

The new season will be here before we know it. We dread pre-season and the conditioning is tough but the season start is early, the competition starts very soon so these weeks leading into Christmas are very important for us to get together as a squad.

My only goal is to try not to get injured. I missed a massive chunk last year through breaking my arm. That was upsetting for me as I came here to play good rugby and before doing my arm I was on that path and playing well. I want to start the season the same way - but maybe avoid snapping a bone!"
