Match Preview: Doncaster v Oldham

Oldham head to Doncaster looking for a big performance and a first win in three games after tough games against Widnes and Bradford in the Betfred Championship.

Sean Long's men are 4th in the table and hungry to put things right after last Friday's home defeat by the Bulls, with the head coach making some key changes to his squad for the trip to the Eco-Power Stadium.

Team News

Oldham this week completed the signings of two players with big Super League experience, and both centre Ben Davies from St Helens and forward Ryan Lannon from Widnes are straight into the 21-man squad and in line to make their Roughyeds debuts.

Long had just 17 fit bodies last week and handed a debut to Waterhead teenager Marcus Geener. Marcus is our guest this week as he fields your questions on You Have the Mic!

This week Long is able to call on three youngsters on dual registration from Wigan, with hooker Tom Forber and winger Josh Cartwright having already played for Oldham this season, and Jacob Douglas now set to feature.

Adam Milner has also recovered from illness to take his place in the squad, while another experienced forward Matty Ashurst is fit to return. Logan Astley is back in the squad too after injury.

Winger Mo Agoro is not quite ready after his recent injury setback, while fellow winger Jack Johnson also picked up a problem against the Bulls last week and misses out.

Elijah Taylor is awaiting the results of a head scan before being cleared to return to action after injury against Sheffield, while centre Iain Thornley is again missing.

Longer-term absentees are vice-captain Matty Wildie, winger Kieran Dixon and forward Brad Gallagher.

Jumah Sambou serves the final match of his suspension.

The Opposition

Doncaster have won three of their opening seven games and go into the game in 8th spot in the Championship table, four points behind Oldham.

Last weekend saw a narrow 24-19 defeat away to Barrow - who beat Oldham earlier in the season, and there is real experience in the Dons side with the likes of former Hull KR and Featherstone full-back Craig Hall, former Wakefield centre Reece Lyne - who scored two tries at Barrow - and former Leeds Rhinos winger Luke Briscoe.

Doncaster have won both of their last two home games, beating Toulouse 10-6 at the end of March and then Sheffield 19-6 a fortnight ago.

The head-to-head record favours the South Yorkshire side too, with Doncaster winning their last eight home games against Oldham dating back to 2010, when the Roughyeds came away with a 46-26 Championship One win.

Led by long-serving head coach Richard Horne, the Dons are not a side to be under-estimated.
