Match Preview: York vs Oldham

Oldham head to the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday afternoon for a huge game in the Betfred Championship at the home of leaders York Knights.

Roughyeds won well against Hunslet last weekend at Boundary Park to keep up the pressure in the top four, and sit four points behind York who are on an 11-match winning run at the top of the Championship.

Team News

Sean Long welcomes back hooker Eloi Pelissier and forward Ryan Lannon who both missed the win over Hunslet through injury.

Second row Matty Ashurst is not quite ready to return, while captain Jordan Turner is also missing.

Brad Gallagher and Bailey Aldridge are the two men to drop out of the 21-man squad as Pelissier and Lannon return.

Matty Wildie will lead the side in the week he agreed a contract extension with the club.

The head coach discusses his selection and preparation for the York game in his latest interview with George Riley here.

Riley Dean remains out long-term along with centres Iain Thornley and Jumah Sambou. Zane Musgrove sits out game six of his eight-match suspension.

The Opposition

York are the pacesetters in the Betfred Championship and are mounting a strong challenge to be included in Super League next year.

The team has been revitalised under head coach Mark Applegarth, recovering from a slow start to the year and are now on an 11-match winning run in the Championship - 13 games on the spin in all competitions having won the 1895 Cup at Wembley.

The Knights have only lost four league games - but Oldham fans will be well aware that one of those was at Boundary Park when the Roughyeds ran riot on the opening day of the season.

Much-fancied York were thumped 50-4 by a rampant Oldham team, with Joe Brown scoring York’s only try that afternoon.
Kieron Dixon kicked nine goals against his former club as well as scoring two tries for a personal points tally of 26.

York boast the second top try scorer in the Championship in former Super League Grand Final winner Ben Jones-Bishop with 22, while Liam Harris is both the competition's top goal kicker and points scorer.
