Oldham are delighted to announce a new one-year contract for 19-year-old Waterhead forward Marcus Geener.
The youngster trained with the Roughyeds first team throughout 2025 and his dedication was rewarded with a senior debut against Bradford Bulls in the Championship.
The England Community Lions star, who was once a ball boy for Oldham, has now been backed to make a big breakthrough into the first team.
"I'm buzzing," Geener told Roughyeds TV.
Coming in at the start of last season my main goal was to get another year here and I think the hard work and all the training paid off. It did get difficult at times but I am happy I did it all as I now have another opportunity.
I have a similar goal now and hopefully there will be a natural evolution from last year. I am hoping I get more chances as I get bigger and stronger and develop more as a player.
I am still only 19 so I don't want to put too much pressure on myself but I do feel I am ready to push on that little bit further. I just want to keep getting better.I feel I had a better effect on my Waterhead team because I had been with Oldham. With the growth of the game in the local community and all the junior finals now being at Oldham's Netpar Training Centre, it seems more like a community again now which has been missing the last few years. You see kids in Oldham shirts now."
Director of Rugby Mike Ford said:
"It was an easy decision to re-sign Marcus because of his attitude. Now he understands what professional life is during the week we are going to up the ante with him to make him bigger, stronger and faster.
We expect to see him pushing for a first-team place this season and play at this level. We think he has a big future."
